Hubballi: CID Files Chargesheet in Anjali Ambiger Murder Case
Hubballi, Express News: The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Police, who are investigating the murder of Anjali Ambiger, have submitted a 494-page chargesheet in a Hubballi court, according to sources.
Anjali was brutally murdered by the accused, Girish alias Vishwanath S. Sawant, earlier this year at her grandparents’ house within the Bendigeri Police Station limits. The case sent shockwaves through society, as it followed the heinous murder of Neha Hiremath, who was stabbed to death by a former classmate in broad daylight on the BVB College premises.
The Anjali Ambiger murder case was handed over to the CID, with a team led by DySP H.M. Umesh. The CID team collected 85 pieces of evidence and filed the 494-page chargesheet in connection with the case, sources said.
The chargesheet reportedly includes CCTV footage, the postmortem report, the FSL report, mobile tower data, the knife used in the murder, and other crucial evidence.
Girish, the accused, had been absconding after the murder but was eventually apprehended by railway police following a quarrel with a co-passenger on the Vishwamanava Express.
Following allegations from Anjali’s family that police did not act on their complaints about threats to her life, the then Police Commissioner, Renuka Sukumar, suspended the Bendigeri Station Inspector and a woman constable attached to the station. Additionally, the government suspended ACP (South) Vijaykumar Talwar and DCP (Law and order) Rajeev M in connection with the case.
